Everything you need to know about Protein – Part 2

Continuing on from Everything you need to know about Protein – Part 1 we discuss alternatives to whey protein powder supplements that may assist you better in reaching your workout and fitness goals.

Alternative Protein Supplements to Whey Protein

Beef Protein

Beef protein supplements are a great alternative for bodybuilders looking for non-dairy or plant proteins and has become extremely popular in the fitness community. With natural sources of creatine and BCAA’s, they are a great all round supplement with no fat or cholesterol. With a variety of great flavours, you don’t have to worry about your shakes tasting like beef.

Casein Protein

Casein (also known as milk protein), is a slow releasing protein compared to whey proteins. Due to this it’s ideal for taking before sleeping, as it can take 5 -7 hours for casein protein to breakdown and be absorbed by your body. This means that while you sleep your body will have a constant supply of nutrients and amino acids being delivered to the muscles, staying anabolic throughout the night.  Alternatively, you can take it during the day to stay fuller for longer hours after taking a protein shake.

Egg protein is one of the most expensive protein supplements on the market and as the name suggest it is made from eggs. It is made by separating the yokes from the egg whites and then dehydrating the egg whites turning them into a powder to form a complete protein. Ideal for those who are looking to improve their diets as egg protein is rich in vitamins and nutrients. However, like milk allergies, egg allergies are common and can cause upset especially in young adults.

Plant Protein

There are so many plant proteins we decided to write a post just on this topic, check out Vegan Protein Powders – What You Need to Know to continue reading about what protein supplements are available and which is the best for you.
